Group-wide maintenance strategy across four commodities

4
Commodity streams aligned
Group-wide
Common maintenance standard

The challenge

A multi-commodity mining group operated diamond, platinum, coal and iron ore assets with maintenance practice that had evolved independently at every operation. Comparable equipment carried different tactics, spares holdings were inconsistent, and group engineering had no common basis for judging performance.

Our approach

Aurixs established a common criticality methodology and built a shared maintenance tactic library by equipment class, allowing each operation to inherit an engineered baseline and adapt only for genuine duty differences. Capability development ran alongside so the standard would be maintained locally rather than imposed centrally.

Outcome

  • Common tactic library across four commodity streams
  • Consistent criticality basis for group reporting
  • Local capability to maintain and revise the standard

Structural and condition assessment across production facilities

Multi-site
Assessed to one standard
Costed
Remediation by risk priority

The challenge

A major beverage producer needed an objective view of the structural and building condition across its production estate, with capital planning decisions pending and no consistent basis for comparing site needs.

Our approach

Aurixs performed structured structural and condition assessments to a single standard across the sites, classifying defects by severity and consequence and converting findings into a prioritised, costed remediation programme aligned to the capital cycle.

Outcome

  • Single comparable condition baseline across sites
  • Defects classified and prioritised by risk
  • Costed remediation programme feeding capital planning

Critical access infrastructure service scope definition

Zero
Tolerance for unplanned outage
SLA-led
Scope tied to availability

The challenge

A data centre operator required a rigorous service scope for critical door and access infrastructure, where a failure has security, compliance and availability consequences simultaneously and vendor scopes had been loosely defined.

Our approach

Aurixs developed a detailed scope of work tying maintenance activity to failure modes and criticality, with service standards, response requirements and acceptance criteria that could be contracted and audited.

Outcome

  • Failure-mode-based service scope
  • Auditable service standards and response times
  • Clear acceptance criteria for contractor performance

Operational readiness for a processing plant expansion

Day one
CMMS populated and functional
Pre-handover
Spares and tactics in place

The challenge

A processing expansion was approaching handover with the maintenance organisation largely unprepared: the asset register was incomplete, spares had not been provisioned against failure modes, and no maintenance tactics existed for the new equipment.

Our approach

Aurixs ran a readiness workstream in parallel with the final construction phase — building the functional hierarchy and register, developing tactics from OEM data and failure modes, provisioning critical and insurance spares, and loading everything into the CMMS before first production.

Outcome

  • Register and hierarchy live in the CMMS at handover
  • Tactics and job plans ready for the first cycle
  • Critical spares in place before ramp-up
Water Infrastructure · Southern Africa

Corrosion control programme on ageing water assets

Extended
Service life on treated assets
Planned
Remediation cycle established

The challenge

Water infrastructure assets were degrading faster than the maintenance budget assumed, with corrosion repairs consistently arriving as emergencies rather than planned work.

Our approach

Aurixs surveyed the asset group, identified the governing degradation mechanisms, specified protection systems matched to the actual exposure and access constraints, and established an inspection cycle that trends condition rather than recording snapshots.

Outcome

  • Degradation mechanisms identified and quantified
  • Protection systems specified for real exposure
  • Planned remediation replacing emergency repair

Risk engineering surveys and asset valuation programme

Verified
Registers and sums insured
Graded
Loss prevention findings

The challenge

Underwriters and asset owners were working from valuations and risk information that no longer reflected the plants, following years of modification and expansion without corresponding record updates.

Our approach

Aurixs conducted engineering-led risk surveys and physical asset verification, re-establishing reinstatement values, assessing fire and machinery breakdown exposure, and producing graded loss prevention recommendations suitable for underwriter submission.

Outcome

  • Verified asset registers and reinstatement values
  • Graded risk findings with practical recommendations
  • Defensible position for renewal discussions
